► My First Post!

Yá’át’ééh and welcome to my Patriotic Indigena! I’m excited to start blogging!  I’m literally sitting on an old wooden chair at my mom’s house in her back yard by the back door.  This is the best WiFi reception.

I have been thinking about this blog for some time now.  I wanted to create a blog that would connect me to you and share the things that I’m curious about.  I’m passionate about my ancestors’s legacy.  My great great grandmothers Fur Hat Sister and Four Horned Woman and my great grandfather Nakai Begay and my grandpa Little John (naming several).

I’m basically curious about my identity holistically! I question not only my identity, but also the environment that I have been living in. How did I get here? Where did I get my freckles? Is it from my grandma Lucy? I remember seeing freckles on her hands.  Although, she passed away at the age of 103 (I was in the third grade) and I barely got to know her. Was she always a kind and funny little woman? That’s how I remember her.

I have been thinking this blog will be changing as I get older and my old ideas will develop into a more grounded knowledge.

The blog title began as “Guarding Woman,” with a sketched of a woman outstretching herself adorned in a beautiful rug dress about to embrace the world.  I drew her when I was 12 years old.

I hope that whatever I write is inspirational to you in some way. For me, it’s a personal journey that focuses on today’s indigenous issues. It’s unique because it’s through my Diné lens and voice. A much needed perspective.
